Inside Growth Publisher Sales: From IC to Team Lead, Bhoomi Wadhwa Attributes These Key Things to Her Growth at Taboola

Approach each day with curiosity and a growth mindset

For me, a growth mindset means seeing every moment as an opportunity to learn. Our work on the growth publisher sales team is about scaling publisher partnerships and fueling revenue growth. During a typical day, our team reviews performance for newly launched publishers, researches new prospects, conducts discovery calls to understand publishers’ business models, and gauges if Taboola could drive them better performance. Taking on each effort with curiosity and an agile mindset to uncover new possibilities is key because in our industry, the only constant is change.

What’s one of the most exciting parts of your job that shows a growth mindset in action?

I thrive on unexpected challenges because they force me to think outside the box, learn something new, and challenge myself to come up with creative solutions. Working across different cultures is a perfect example of this. I manage a diverse team of four individuals and often find myself on calls with people from countries like India, Australia, Japan, Korea, and parts of Southeast Asia, sometimes all in one day.

Instead of seeing this as complicated, I see it as an incredible opportunity to adapt my communication style and learn from different business nuances and cultures. The biggest learning that comes from this is that every market operates differently, and I can create impact at scale while navigating industry changes by being open to new ways of thinking.

Keeping collaboration and alignment at the forefront

My time at Taboola has shaped me professionally and pushed me to thrive despite challenges and shifting industry trends. With the support of my mentor and manager, Arthur Koechlin, I’ve accomplished so much, from earning a spot in the Global Sales Club three years in a row to leading global collaboration projects that have helped me grow, while making a lasting impact on Taboola. Two of which are:

  1. Fraud detection project: I partnered with the anti-fraud team to create a list of fraud checks to be done before onboarding a publisher. We trained our global team on this, which led to onboarding fewer fraudulent publishers and cleaning the network, ensuring quality traffic to send to our advertisers.
  2. Publisher messaging: I worked with our global growth marketing team to develop messaging to share across social media to educate and inform publishers on the value Taboola can drive from monetization, engagement, and audiences, increasing brand awareness for Taboola and the growth publisher business.

Staying persistent, adaptable, & resilient

I’m not the person who gives up easily when it comes to getting a response in sales, and my approach is always to think about the bigger picture and how my efforts can help clients meet and exceed their goals. I’m consistent with the effort I put into my work and myself personally, and if one tactic isn’t successful, I keep searching for other creative solutions. I take a lot of pride in my approach to creative prospecting and compelling outreach, which has led to consistently exceeding targets and growing at Taboola.

What’s a creative solution you’ve utilized to get a prospect’s attention?

APAC Sales Kick Off 2024

One of my favorite breakthrough moments was recording a video of myself to get a prospect’s attention after weeks of trying. I showed their website and pointed out a low-quality issue impacting their brand. It was a personalized, unconventional message that got me an immediate response. It led to a discovery call with the CEO, and I landed the deal. It goes to show that a bit of creativity and a genuine interest in a client’s business can go a long way.

What do you look for in others, considering joining the Publisher Sales team at Taboola?

Now that I’m a people manager, I get to focus on what I’m passionate about: helping my team expand their potential and achieve great results.
