When setting up your campaigns, make sure to follow our best practices to get your campaigns off to a great start!
Start with a high CPC. Taboola offers a Cost-per-Click (CPC) pricing model. This means that you set the amount you are willing to pay for each click on your content. Starting with a high CPC will ensure you remain as competitive as possible on the platform and that your content is tested quickly across the network.
Keep CPC consistent for 7 days. After defining your CPC, we recommend keeping it consistent for the first 7 days of your campaign. Once you establish a solid CTR (and our system has gathered significant data), you can, in very small increments, begin to lower your CPC.
Input a budget that will allow for at least $50 a day in spend. This will ensure that there is enough data to gathered quickly, allowing you to optimize your campaigns while testing that your content URLs are working before increasing or removing the daily cap.
Split campaigns by platform (desktop, tablet, mobile). This allows you to optimize based on the performance of a specific platform. A title that works well on mobile may have poor results on desktop. If budget is limited, select one platform to start and go from there.
Split campaigns by geo. This way, you can optimize based on the performance for that specific country. If budget is limited, select one country to start and go from there.
Split campaigns by content type. If, for example, you are a publisher, split campaigns into galleries and articles. If you are a performance advertiser, create a new campaign for every URL separately. This also makes it more efficient for A/B testing different titles and thumbnails.
Group content based on safety.“Family friendly,” “gossip/not safe for all” and “racy/shocking/skin” content). This also ensures that there are no delays in the approval process.
If you are a performance marketer - upload one URL per campaign, and create between 5-10 variations for each URL - A variation is a different combination of headline/thumbnail image pairings.
If you are a publisher or a brand looking to grow brand awareness - upload 20-40 URLs per campaign, and create between 5-10 variations (title/image combination) for each URL.
